Patty & Brooks| The Oaks Wedding in St. Michaels

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck.

Let's talk about the ceremony first.. this is the moment you are actually "tying the knot". In the Hindu religion, it is believed that rain is good luck on your wedding day because it is said to be a sign of good fortune and abundance. However, it is also believed that rain on your wedding day signifies a strong marriage. Since during the ceremony you are "tying the knot", in this religion they identify that it is more difficult to 'untie' a knot that is wet than it is to untie a knot that isn't. Therefore, rain during ONLY the ceremony should be a sign of extra good luck because it was truly meant to be. This is what happened during Patty + Brook's gorgeous wedding in St. Michaels last Saturday at the gorgeous Oaks Inn.

These two had such a sentimental wedding day at it was incredibly perfect, even the rain during the ceremony. The day began with the girls getting ready in the adorable cottage at the Oaks Inn located just adjacent to the actual inn. They were enjoying mimosas and talking about how excited they were for Patty to finally marry Brooks! After a little bit and after taking some of the bridesmaids and groomsmen portraits we then split ways so I could get prepared for the ceremony... as I walked out to the ceremony site I looked up and noticed the storm clouds. All I kept thinking, wasn't oh my god it's going to rain, was how beautiful the day was, regardless of the rain. The scene from the Notebook when Allie and Noah were kissing in the rain came to mind the entire ceremony, and luckily, it happened. The final kiss was just as magical as in the movie.

As I first saw Patty walk down the aisle it wasn't raining. It wasn't until she got to the front to stand with her soon to be husband that the rain starting coming down. The best part, Patty and Brooks were smiling, staring right at each other. It was so beautiful and perfect because you'd think that they would concentrate on the fact that it is raining, but no, these two were so unwavering and so deeply engrossed in each other that I'm sure that they didn't even care about the rain. They were getting married and were so happy and excited. I got so many shots of Patty smiling and laughing and as I scanned the crowd and the guests, I noticed how happy everyone was, despite being soaked by the downpour. I have never experienced a wedding like this where it felt so fresh and so amazing and almost meant to happen that it rained. To me, I felt like the rain only added to the sentimentality of the entire day.

Following this we went inside the cottage for a bit and the sky became gorgeously blue again. We got the most spectacular shots and it was certain at that point... these two were never going to be 'untied' and it was truly a perfect day meant to be.

Patty + Brooks- Thank you both for trusting me with your wedding memories!! I had a blast and you both are SO amazing. Thank you again!!
